Teton County Fire Protection District (TCFPD) receives frequent requests from insurance agents and underwriters for fire protection information used in coverage decisions. This page provides the most commonly requested information. For anything not covered here, contact the district.

Staffing

TCFPD is a career (full-time) department, staffed 24/7 on a shift rotation. Typical on-duty staffing is 6–8 personnel per shift.

The district also has a callback structure to bring in additional off-duty personnel for larger incidents. This is a voluntary response, not a guaranteed or mandated staffing level. The district cannot commit to a specific number of additional personnel or a specific response time for callback staff.

Apparatus & First-Alarm Response

On a structure fire, on-duty staff typically respond with:

● 2 Engines — 1,000-gallon tank each, 1,500 GPM pump capacity

● 2 Tenders — 2,000-gallon and 4,000-gallon capacity

ISO Public Protection Classification (PPC)

TCFPD's Public Protection Classification is determined by the Insurance Services Office (ISO), not by the district directly. ISO does not release PPC ratings to the general public. This information is available only to insurance companies, agents, and fire officials.

Classifications commonly vary by location within the district based on distance to a fire hydrant and road-mile distance to a staffed station, so a single district-wide rating does not apply to every property.

Water Supply

Mutual Aid

TCFPD maintains mutual aid agreements with neighboring counties.

Response Time

TCFPD does not maintain a database of address-specific drive times. Estimated response time can be approximated using standard mapping tools (e.g., Google Maps drive time) as a starting point. Note that this typically overstates response speed somewhat, since fire apparatus is heavier and slower than a standard passenger vehicle, even accounting for lights-and-siren driving.

Brush Clearance / Defensible Space

TCFPD does not conduct site assessments or verification for brush and vegetation clearance. This is the responsibility of the property owner or insurer. Vegetation and defensible space conditions can change seasonally and are not tracked or certified by the district.
